Easy Bread and Butter Pickles

6 c. thinly sliced cucumbers
2 c. thinly sliced onions
3 c. sugar
3 c. vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. ground turmeric
Sterilize the Jars: Hot water clean the jars and their lids in either the dishwasher or in a boiling hot-water bath.

Prepare the Cucumbers & Pack the Jars: Wash and slice the cucumbers. Try to make the slices the same size. Alternately layer sliced cucumbers and onions into each jar. Make sure to leave a 1/4 of an inch of room at the top of the jar.

Cook the Brine: Combine the vinegar, garlic, salt, mustard seed, celery seed, and turmeric in a medium covered saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir just until sugar is dissolved.

Easy Bread and Butter PicklesPickling: Pour the hot brine over the pickle and onion slices, covering completely. Cover and tighten lid. Refrigerate pickles at least 24 hours before serving.
