Faux Weave Scarf

This scarf knits up fast and is super comfortable. Perfect for a beginning knitter.

  • Yarn A: 2 skeins of a velour or suede 5 weight yarn (or weight equivalent of your choice)
  • Yarn B: 1 skein of speciality yarn (like a variegated boucle or fringe style yarn)
  • Needles: size US 8 straight knitting needles and a large crotchet hook

Cast on: 25 stitches using a single strand of  yarn A
Row 1: K1, *P1, K1, *continue across the row ending with a K
Row 2: P1, *K1, P1, *continue across the row ending with a P
Row 3: K1, *P1, K1, *continue across the row ending with a K
Row 4: K3, K2tog, YO, *K2, K2tog, YO, *continue across the row, K the last three stitches.
Row 5: K1, *P1, K1, *continue across the row ending with a K
Row 6: P1, *K1, P1, *continue across the row ending with a P
Row 7: K1, *P1, K1, *continue across the row ending with a K
Repeat Rows 4-8,  until scarf measures 52 inches in length, ending with row 7
Bind off

Finishing:

  1. Cut 10 strands of yarn B into 60 inch pieces.
  2. Cut 44 strands of yarn A into 8 inch pieces.
  3. Using the crotchet hook, “weave” 2 strands of Yarn B at a time through the first vertical row of holes, leaving 4 inches exces at either end. Repeat the “weave”with the remaining strands of B.
  4. Knot the 4 inch exces strands of B at the bottom and top edge of the scarf to hold them in place.
  5. Using the crotchet hook, slip 2 strands of A at a time through the bottom edge of the scarf and knot in place. Repeat this 21 times, knotting 2 sets of fringe between each vertical “weave.”
  6. Repeat step 5 on the remaining edge of the scarf to finish the fringe.
